Rome - The eternal city

I

On Monday we had a whirlwind visit to Rome. We headed off in our bus just after 8.00 am for the long drive from the port (Civitavecchia) to Rome. We arrived just before 10.00 am in Vatican square and hurried off to find our hop on hop off bus.

Our plan was to get to the Coliseum to take some photos and have lunch.
On the way we stopped off at Trevi fountain which has recently been reopened after restoration.
The monument looked really nice and clean but the fountain was off as they were cleaning it! So we didn't toss a coin in....

After the fountain and Michael's gelato fix, we got back on the bus and headed to the Coliseum. We got there and the crowds were in full force. It was extremely hot and humid so it was very uncomfortable walking around. We tried to find our favourite restaurant but it was full!! We settled for another one but the meal was average. After our meal we went back to the Coliseum and took some photos.

We then caught the bus back to Vatican square where we were meeting our guide to go back to the port.
We did some souvenir shopping while we waited.
It was an ok day, pretty rushed and hot but still when in Rome....haha....the eternal city is still beautiful regardless.
A bit hard to see anything properly in Rome from a cruise ship visit due to the port being so far away, for us it didn't matter as we spent quite a bit of time here a few years ago and have seen most of the sights.
Another big day, 9.7km walked!

Arrivederci Roma!
